Positive Outlook
The gloom and doom of the US economy has been on the forefront of the newspaper, TV and radio. While the national situation is creating headlines, the North Dakota economy is in relatively good condition and our local economy in particular has many areas of strength.
Western North Dakota home values have remained strong and new individual and commercial construction has remained solid. We have experienced solid growth in the tourism, energy and agriculture sectors. For example, last year, North Dakota produced the most wheat and barley in the entire nation. In addition, growth in energy exploration and production has given the local economy a solid boost by increasing employment, generating business growth opportunities, and bringing additional dollars to our area.
Finally, the local banking and credit union community in Southwest North Dakota has remained largely unaffected by the national credit situation. Our banks have invested in smart local growth, and continue to lend dollars for sound business and individual purchases. At Sax Motor Co, we have many sources of funds for automobile loans for our customers. If you are considering a purchase of a new or used vehicle, please don’t hesitate to discuss financing alternatives with our sales department. This from a Letter to the Editor in the Bowman County Pioneer.
A father and daughter were traveling on a Sunday through the area with horsetrailer in tow for a trip to Wyoming. They had engine trouble and the Sax Motor Co. Chris Schmidt of Dickinson received an automotive scholarship in the amount of $500 from Sax Motor Co. The Automobile Dealers Assoc. of ND matched this contribution for a total of $1,000 for Chris to use during the 2008-2009 school year.
The purpose of the ADAND scholarship program is to assist in the training of potential employees of ND automobile dealers in order to create a larger pool of qualified, committed, long-term employees for those deaerlships.
Chris worked at Sax Motor Co. from May until August 2008 rotating through as many aspects of the service department as possible. Chris plans to return to the ND State College of Science in Wahpeton to pursue a degree in Automotive Technology.

After graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1991, Don attended Northwest Technical College obtaining a 2 year degree in Sales and Service merchandising. He then moved to Dickinson in 1994 from Grand Forks. He has over 16 years sales and service experience. Don is married to wife, Shelley, has three children; 2 boys, Weston and Hunter, and one step-daughter, Lindsey, along with two dogs. In his spare time, Don likes to go fishing, hunting, is involved in Motocross racing and loves to go on vacations with his family.
